SimCity BuildIt Unit Cost ($/Minute of Build Time)

$

What item will net you the highest profit per minute in SimCity BuildIt?  What item should you purchase instead of waste time waiting for? To discover the answers to this question I calculated the minimum build times for every item in the game. My results can be found below.

A few notes on these calculations:
I assumed that when possible, raw goods would be manufactured at the same time. For example, if metal and plastic is needed, only the plastic time was carried forward. The "Critical Path" column lists the raw good with the longest build time. If you want to shorten the overall build time, the critical path item would be a good one to purchase.

Occasionally, raw goods are manufactured in the same building so you can only do one at a time. I took that into account when calculating the times as well. Thus if you need nails and planks, I assumed you'd build the metal and wood at the same time and then build nails and planks in succession at the Building Supply Store.

Note that these are for a single item. You can do much better on the $/min calculation by making batches of larger quanitites. If you do that, you'll get completely different numbers.

Let me know if you find any mistakes in my calculations or have a question.

Special thanks to karincanada62@gmail.com who started compiling some of these numbers, giving me a head start.

List of abbreviations:
Max Value = maximum value if selling on the global marketplace

The SCPG has expanded to CitiesXXL and soon Cities:Skylines

I've just completed a full jump into another game: CitiesXXL and will soon be embarking into Cities: Skylines.

CitiesXXLPlanningGuide.com is complete and ready for users to browse every map and resource.

www.CitiesXXLPlanningGuide.com is open for business

Like everyone else, I've been excited to see the early videos of Cities:Skylines. I'm currently in the process of getting SkylinesPlanningGuide.com up and running as well. Stay tuned on more info on that endeavor, although you can already go ahead and bookmark it if you'd like. All I have so far is some useful links but as soon as I get my hands on the game later this week, I'll be getting photos of all the maps uploaded and ready for your browsing. I'll also be trying to document all of the best tips and tricks available. It should be an exciting couple of weeks as we all jump into the Skylines universe.

Meanwhile, I continue to be an active player on SimCity BuildIt. I recently hit level 46 with a population of 440,000. I've also recently expanded to 210 spaces in my storage yard. The BuildIt price list has been a popular item on SCPG and I promise to update it as I come across new items related to the recent TokyoTown expansion.

SimCity BuildIt Tips

I've been playing BuildIt for quite a while now and have written out some strategies that I've been employing:

Rule #1: Keep producing items as continuously as possible. Sell extras at the Trade Depot. If no humans buy them, Daniel (the computer) will.

Replace what you use. If you use a factory full of plastic, start up another set. Just keep production flowing. If you don't need it when it's done, sell it. This helps keep an extra bit of cash coming your way.

Free up the bottleneck. The biggest bottleneck in the game is the Farmers Market. If you see Fruit & Berries, Beef, Cheese, Cream or Flour Bags in the Trade HQ, buy it. Eliminating one of those items from the equation can make production much easier for you.

Be Smart with money. If you receive an offer on items, check the Price Guide to see if it's worth taking the deal.  If you can receive more at the Trade Depot, do that instead. Remember, Daniel will eventually buy anything you list.

Plan ahead for the cargo ships and airport. Start production of those items as soon as it tells you what's coming. The long build time items usually require two or three of each. The raw goods and other short term items may take up to 10. Build more than you need and sell any excess. Try to minimize the time the cargo vehicles spend in your city. Pack them up and let the next shipment get started ASAP.

Harsh Reality. Do not be mistaken, this game is basically a slot machine: a finely tuned machine designed to separate you from your money. If you want to build a city, play SimCity, Cities:Skylines, or CitiesXXL on the PC. You'll get much more desirable results in a fraction of the time. However if you have tons of patience and don't mind taking the long way round, this can be a very enjoyable casual game.

You don't really need design skills. You don't need more than one cross street. Your entire city can be laid out like the letter E with streets leading to dead ends.

Stick to the basics. Early on, don't build more than what you can cover with the basic services: Sewer, Water, Fire and Health. Don't be afraid to demolish buildings you can't support.

Go Big. If you want skyscrapers, you'll need to have more than just the basics. You also need to have multiple specializations covering the area: Parks, Education, Transportation, Entertainment, Gambling, Landmarks or Worship.

Eureka! If searching for expansion or storage items, dig deep into the Trade HQ. It is rare to find one of those items listed on the main screen. I find most of my items by selecting cities selling other items, and discovering them in among the other items they're selling.

Don't Forget to Pop The Bubbles. When visiting cities at the Trade HQ, make sure to click on the blue bubbles found in the city. You'll often find Tokyo, storage or dozer items gifted to you by the game.

Buy! Buy! Buy! Buy every expansion item/storage item you see in the Trade HQ, even if you're not currently expanding. If you don't want them, list them in your Trade Depot (unadvertised) for your neighbors. If you're good to them, they'll be good back to you later down the line.

Sell! Sell! Sell! Never sell an item at less than full price, unless you're trading it to someone for $1.

Daniel sells at a discount. Daniel never sells at full price, so I buy everything he has. You can then use it, or list it at full price to make a profit. Remember, if no one buys it, Daniel will buy his own items back from you.

Be a good neighbor. If you see a valuable item listed for $1 by a neighbor, do not take it. Someone's probably trading it to a friend.

Be a good neighbor part two. I'll sometimes keep my trade depot stocked with rare goodies (or long term items) for my neighbors. If I see something good in the Trade HQ, but I don't need it, I'll often pick it up anyways and list it. Things that take a long time like Sugar and Spices, Glass, etc. Even if no one takes it, Daniel will eventually reimburse the cost by buying it from you. No harm, no foul, and yet you've given your neighbors opportunities to find stuff easier.

Campfires are best built at night.  Load up the factories with all the long term items before you go to bed so that when you wake up you'll have your fire pits, frozen yogurt, cream, electronics and other goodies ready and waiting for you. The simple items: metal, wood, plastic are better made during the day while you can babysit the game.

Can I get that on easy-pay? If faced with a large road upgrade, build a small section of cross street. It will break up the road into smaller, more reasonable payments. You'll still eventually need to upgrade but you can put the expense off for a while. It's like putting the upgrades on a payment plan.

A short segment of cross street can help break up the cost of road upgrades into more reasonable amounts.
Be Social!: Join one of the Facebook groups to find friends to play with. There's a bunch of them. Each has it's own personality and culture. When joining, I'd suggest being a fly on the wall for a bit to understand how each group interacts before jumping right in to the middle of things.

SimCity BuildIt - Commercial Build Times

All of the commercial buildings can be upgraded to decrease the build times. The upgrades come in three steps: a 10%, 15% and 20% decrease. I've documented all of the upgrade costs and build times in the tables below.

These upgrades will benefit the players that keep their commercial buildings busy 24/7. In my opinion, the Farmer's Market, Building Supplies, and the Hardware Store are the three that benefit you the most.

SimCity BuildIt - Fastest Way to Make Money

$

Are you facing some expensive road upgrades? Dr. Vu needs 160k to upgrade? It's time to make some money, but what do you build? What makes you the most money in the least amount of time in SimCity BuildIt?

I previously did some calculations on dollars per total minute of build time. As I've continued to play this game, I've come to the conclusion that the time spent in the raw good factories is mostly irrelevant. The bigger factor is the time spent using up a slot in the commercial buildings. With this concept in mind, I took a fresh look at my calculations and removed the time needed in the raw good factories and recalculated the $/minute rate.  I assumed that I had an infinite amount of raw goods: wood, metal, plastic, etc. and recalculated everything. In essence, it's a rate that quantifies dollars per minute of commercial building build time. The assumption is that you'll be able to manage your raw good factories to ensure the commercial buildings can stay busy 100% of the time.

After running the calculations, I sorted results by the top $/minute rates. The results are below. The boxes are colored by which commercial building produces them.

I've tried out several setups and the one I like the most focuses on making

  • Donuts
  • Chairs
  • Caps
  • Bricks
  • TVs

While things get ramped up I'll often do watches instead of caps because they don't require the hardware store, but eventually I'll get a good enough supply chain going that I can switch to my ideal caps/chairs combo. The downside is that the materials for chairs and caps have a relatively fast turnaround time so I don't run it at night, otherwise it would run out at some point. I'll switch to shovels, cement and glue so that during the day I can add in gnomes and grass.

When I sell items, I usually sell donuts/caps/tvs in pairs and chairs/bricks in packs of five each. If you hold onto things to sell in groups of 10 they tend to take longer.

Have another combo that works for you? I'd love to hear your ideas in the comments below.

Vu Tower Upgrade Costs

$
0
0
If you build Dr. Vu's tower, you'll have access to disasters. When you release a disaster, a certain number of buildings will be destroyed, and the population within each of those buildings will be lost as well. To rebuild, you'll have to provide whatever items it is requesting. Unlike a brand new building, you only have to fulfill the construction order once. Upon completion the building will return to it's former glory, your population will return, and you'll receive a specified number of golden keys as a reward.

As you complete disaster challenges, you'll be rewarded with Vu points. Eventually, you'll max out on points and be given the opportunity to pay for an upgrade. As you complete each upgrade, you gain access to new disasters, which also offer greater numbers of golden keys as a reward. There are 18 levels in all. Here's the breakdown on costs.

Vu Upgrade Cost
1
2$10,000
3$20,000
4$30,000
5$40,000
6$50,000
7$60,000
8$80,000
9$100,000
10$120,000
11$140,000
12$160,000
13$180,000
14$200,000
15$220,000
16$240,000
17$260,000
18$280,000
Total$2,190,000

The upgrades get very expensive, but it's awesome being able to complete a disaster challenge and be rewarded with more than 5 golden keys. Which level is right for you is really up to you. Levels 1-9 are fairly easy to achieve, but after that you're really going to have to save your money.

Road Upgrade Costs

$

0
As you build your city, the game will force you to upgrade your roads. Unlike the PC version of SimCity, there really is no rhyme or reason to it. They will force you to upgrade every road no matter what. There's a couple of tricks to postponing it

  • Add a short segment of cross street intersecting the road it wants you to upgrade. The upgrade demand will go away temporarily. The game will eventually ask you to upgrade again, but it might be a different segment.
  • Play the game listed above of temporarily postponing upgrades until it requests a really short segment of road with very little to no population. Let it go abandoned. I had this happen once and was able to let it sit like that for several days. I knew it had a minimal to no impact to my population and it kept further requests away. I'm not sure if that would work permanently because I eventually did go and start doing road upgrades.

Like everything in this game, the road upgrades get expensive. The higher the road classification, the higher the cost. I've summarized the upgrades in the table below. To test this out, I built the shortest segment of road possible and requested road upgrades all the way up to the maximum level.

2 Lane Road Free
4 Lane Road $        300
6 Lane Road $    1,200

SimCity BuildIt Trading Guide

13 Remotes !?! How did you get 13 remotes? Answer: Trades
Saving up rare items for expansion can be frustratingly slow. One way to speed up that process is to find other players to trade with.

On Facebook, there are groups: some public, some private, and others by invitation-only where people are trading bulldozer parts, Vu remotes, Tokyo and other rare items in quantities that vary from 1-100. It's essentially a black market for all of the items in the game.

Each purchase is done at a particular rate agreed upon before the trade occurs. The items are typically listed for $1 each so it's a plain swap of parts. Which brings us to a very important rule of thumb:

**** The $1 Rule ****
If you see an item listed in a trade depot for $1, it's most likely being listed for a trade. .

Do not purchase $1 Items unless you are the intended recipient of said items.

Some groups have more obscure subsets of this rule, but the basic tenant of "Don't purchase $1 items if they're not for you" is universal to all the groups I've seen.

How to trade in SimCity BuildIt

1. Find a SimCity BuildIt group on facebook.

2. Make a post stating what you're looking for (or selling) and the ratio of what you're offering . The format you often see goes as follows:

Buying: "Your item you want to buy, my item you're willing to part with, desired ratio"
or
Selling: "My item you want to sell, my item you want to receive, desired ratio"

Examples:
"My land, your burgers, 2:1"
"My burgers, your remotes, 2:1"
"My dozer exhaust, your dozer wheels, 1:1"

3. If you like what someone's offering, leave a comment stating "Deal" and then send them a private message. If someone agrees to a deal on what you're selling, they should send a private message to you. Private message is the best way to do this, so that you won't have any rogue players coming in and swiping your items mid-trade.

4. Send a facebook friend request to your trade partner.

5. After they agree to be a facebook friend, go into the SimCity BuildIt settings and log off of facebook. As soon as you log off, log back in. That should add them to the list of cities you can see.

6. In your private message, confirm exactly what it is that you are trading. For instance, if your original post specified "Land" let them know if it's an even split between dozer blades, exhaust and wheels or if you're doing uneven numbers. Also confirm if you expect all items to be listed as $1 or as max price.

7. If you are currently advertising an item, outsiders have full access to your trade depot. It is best to do trades when you are not advertising to decrease the risk of thefts. Another option is to have your trade partner purchase the items you are advertising, thus removing access to outsiders. Once your trade is done, they can sell them back to you for the same price.

Swiper No Swiping!
8. Once everyone is happy with the terms of the deal, it's time for the buyer to send payment (usually in the form of burgers or other items). The seller should go to the buyer's city, let them know when they are present, and then the buyer should list the items that will act as payment. Exiting and re-entering the city will refresh the trade depot's list of items. Keep exiting and reentering until the payment items appear.

9. The seller should collect the payment, confirm that they've received payment, and then tell the buyer to go to the seller's city. Once the buyer arrives at the selling city, let them know you're there, and the seller should list their items.

10. The buyer should then collect the purchased items.

11. Confirm that the other party is happy with the deal and thank them. In order for this system to work, everyone needs to be fair and honest. Being friendly is an obvious plus because it leaves the door open to trading with them again.

12. If at any time, you are not happy with the deal, let the other person know and arrange to have the payment items returned to the buyer. If you are collecting storage, land, beach, Tokyo or Vu items, DO NOT UPGRADE ANYTHING until the conclusion of the deal and everyone is happy. I've heard of transactions that went south, but they had already used the items, so the deal couldn't be reversed.

13. If someone does not complete the deal and runs off with your payment, send a private message to the admin of the group you're doing the deal in. Most groups have admins that are willing to step in and negotiate a fair settlement, or worst case ban the other player from the group. It's not unheard of for admins to share the names of people who aren't dealing fairly... So if you don't wan't to get blacklisted, always deal honestly and fairly.

Coin Deals
I see this less frequently, but is common in larger deals where $100,000 or more is spent on a big deal.

If a buyer wants payment in coins, you can do the following

1.  The seller will list burgers at full price. For instance a 10 pack of burgers would be $36,200.
2. The buyer will buy them
3. The buyer will then list those same burgers for $1
4. The seller will buy the burgers back for $1 each

By doing the above steps, the buyer will end up with cash, while keeping the original burgers. It can be done repeatedly to send large sums of coins.

Auctions
This is where we get into the secret-society side of these trade groups. Some groups have live auctions where only certain high level/trusted players are invited. Everyone will join a group chat on facebook and a large stash of items will be be put up for auction. It's usually something big, like 50 remotes or 90 Tokyo. I've seen them, but never participated. Once the auction gets going, people will say how much they're willing to spend. One by one, people will drop out until there's one final price.

Beware of dishonest players
Unfortunately, there are people who have hacked/glitched the game in order to get an unlimited supply of simcash. If you see a player with a crazy amount of SimCash in their screenshot, they've been hacking the game. If you see people listing things in too-good-to-be-true deals, or having massive giveaways, they may not be playing fairly. It's unfortunate because it throws off the open market system and ruins the natural supply and demand. In the end, the trade game comes down to everybody playing honestly, fulfilling their end of the deals, and ensuring that both sides are happy with the trades.

How to get into the super secret chat groups within secret groups within closed groups (trust me....they exist)
If you're just starting out I'd suggest getting into one of the large general groups for SimCity BuildIt. The "SimCity Official Group", although not truly official, is the largest group out there with over 5,000 members. I'd recommend starting there as it can be a gateway into the more secretive groups which range from 100-1,000 members. Make some trades there and get known as an honest, daily player. If you get a good enough reputation, people will invite you into the other, more secretive groups.

Conclusion
If you're able to find a good group, you can have a great deal of fun buying and selling rare items. It's really the best way to go when you need to find a large amount of expansion items. I've had good success selling my excess land and storage items for Tokyo, remotes, and burgers. I've built up good relationships with people who have become my go-to people when I need Tokyo or remotes.

Good luck, and happy trading!

Trade Rate Index for SimCity BuildIt - TRISCIT

$

Be wise with your cheddar. Refer to the TRISCIT before you make a trade

I'm a member of multiple SimCity BuildIt groups on Facebook, so I see a lot of posts related to trades. In the table below, I've summarized the rates I'm currently seeing.

Since trade index's always have some crazy name, I'm calling it the TRISCIT because well, TRISCBI doesn't have the same ring to it. Leave a comment if you come up with a better name, I'm open to suggestions.

You will often see the same deals fluctuate between 1:1, 3:2 and 2:1, 3:2 depending on whether the person is selling or buying. They'll often try to buy on the low end and sell on the high end. My goal with this chart is to get you in the ballpark for an average price. If you're selling, you'll want to attempt to beat these prices. If you're buying, you'll want to get a deal with prices lower than these.

Generally speaking, land is worth more than storage. Vu remotes are on par with Tokyo as the top level items.

When beach items first came out, they were pretty much equal with Tokyo items. As time wore on, and the top level players maxed out their beaches, the trade rates plummeted. You may notice that at 3:1 for burgers, they're slightly below max price of $1500 which you can always get from Daniel. I usually just list them in my trade depot.

How to use the chart
The first digit in the ratio represents the items found along the left side of the chart. The second digit in the ratio represents the items found along the top of the chart. Note that I had to abbreviate to get the columns to all fit on the page.

SimCity BuildIt - Specialization Data

I've compiled all of the stats for the SimCity BuildIt specializations in the table below.

Note: "Area" = The area the bonus is applied to.

In order to compare the efficiency of each I've multiplied the Area x Bonus. The higher the result, the more efficient the item is.

I've highlighted the ones that I would call the "Best-In-Class". They are the most efficient and provide the most epic points for each grouping. It's worth noting that none of the gambling buildings provide 3 epic points, making them the hardest of the epic specialization buildings to complete.

* The Sydney Opera House and Ferris Wheel have the same Area x Bonus number, but I give the ferris wheel the designator of Best-In-Class due to it having a smaller footprint.
** The City Name Sign has a higher ranking than the Mountain Castle, but it requires 700 SimCash. If money is no object, the sign is worth getting.

The Art of the Burger Deal

$
0
0

"Burger deals", "Coin deals", "Burger farming". I'm not sure what exactly to call it, but there's a secret method of making money that has become the "Fight Club" of SC BuildIt.

"The first rule of burger deals, is don't talk about burger deals."

The theory has been that it's such a great method of making money, that if word got out...everyone would start doing it. If everyone starts doing it, the developer would then rid the game of this method of earning money. I've never fully agreed with that theory and meanwhile I've seen people hinting at it and talking about it more often. I've even seen a youtube video on it.  So here you go: I'm breaking the First Rule.

Many of the top players are using multiple methods to earn their cash.

  • They manufacture goods 24/7, selling everything off for pure profit.
  • They trade away rare items for greater than max value.
  • They make multiple "feeder cities" using separate accounts/devices thus allowing them to make and sell even more goods.
  • Shhhhhh..... They supplement their income with "burger deals"

OK. So what is a burger deal?

If you click on the coin icons that pop up on various buildings, you will be offered to sell off some random items. You've probably become accustomed to just dismissing them because you don't want to sell off your rare items. If you do the calculations you'll notice that the offers vary in price, from a bad deal (less than face value) to an ok deal (slightly over face value) to great deals (30%+ profit).

Most of the time, these deals seem completely random, but more often than not, it's items that you have in stock. Thus, if you'd like to force the game to give a specific deal, you could sell off everything but that one type of item. The next piece of the puzzle is the fact that the selling price varies. By waiting for a good deal, you can earn up to 30% above max value. Then you take into account that burgers are the most expensive item that you can manufacture in the game. Adding these three things together the picture becomes more clear. So the steps are:

  • Sell off everything but your burgers.
  • Buy all the burgers you can find.
  • Wait for a coin icon to pop up
  • If you see an offer for $900-$1000 above max value per burger: Take it!

Additional things to keep in mind:

  • Burger deals only originate from police precincts.
  • If you don't see a deal pop up, buy a burger at the Trade HQ.
  • Keep repeatedly buying burgers until a deal pops up
  • Dismiss deals that you don't want to take.
  • The more you take burger deals, the more difficult it will become to find burgers at the Trade HQ. Once this happens you're better off going back to your regular gameplay of making and selling goods. Once you start seeing burgers in the Trade HQ again, you can sell off all your items and try the burger method again.
This deal netted me over 500k in profit
A word of caution: In the spirit of the First Rule: Don't make this your primary method of earning money. Don't abuse the method. But I would certainly advise you to add it in alongside the various other methods to earn money in the game. It's just another tool in the toolbox. One that can be very rewarding if you are patient enough to set the conditions needed for it to occur.

Guide to Club Wars

$

Club wars are a fun way to keep the game interesting and interact with other mayors.

War Basics
Each player has 10 health.
Each player has a 12 slot energy bank. They start you off with 6.

The Dome: Once your health goes to zero, no one can attack you until you completely rebuild. You will often be rewarded with war items for rebuilding.

Who can start a war?
Senior, Vice President and President members of the club can initiate a war

The War Timeline
The war timeline lasts 48 hours
  • 12 hours of prep time
  • 34 hours of attack at 1X energy
  • 2 hours of attack at 3X energy

48 Hour Timeline
12 Hours34 Hours2 Hours
Preparation StageAttack StageAttack Finale
6 Energy Provided1X Speed *3X Speed **
* 1X Speed = 15 minute intervals
** 3X Speed = 5 minute intervals

Managing your energy bank:
1X Speed (15 min per 1 energy) -- All but the last 2 hours.

  • 2.5 hours for 10 energy
  • 3 hours to max out at 12 energy
3X Speed (5 min per 1 energy) -- The last 2 hours of war is at 3X speed.
  • 50 min for 10 energy
  • 60 min to max out at 12 energy

War Strategies
Watch out: Some teams will jump out to a higher score, and then hide out while their entire team is under a dome. They’ll just quit playing, and really who likes doing that?

To combat that, you need to maximize your ability to score points. You can do that with the following strategy.
  • Take your opponents down to one health left.
  • Use a high point disaster (6 points or greater) as the final one to put a dome over them.
Why waste a high point disaster on an opponent with only one health?

You will be rewarded the full amount of points no matter how much health the opponent has.

For example:
Have a teammate knock an opponent down to 1 health. Your team will have earned 900 points. If you then use your own 9 point disaster to knock them from 1 health down to 0, you will still earn 900 points even though you've only removed 1 health. By using this method, your team will have earned 1,800 points off of an opponent’s 10 health. Multiply this over 25 opponents on the other team, the potential score you can obtain from your opponents will increase substantially, thus limiting the ability of the opponents to jump out to a lead and hide under a dome.

Minimize the other team's ability to score off of your 10 health.
  • Don't rebuild your city until you're under a dome. Rebuilding allows the other team to score additional points off of your 10 health.
After your entire team is under a dome:
  • Attack right as you reach a max energy of 12. Make sure you can score a full 12 points. If the other team is not employing these strategies, they'll limit themselves to 10 damage, and you will have gained a 2 point advantage.
Earning Chests
The maximum number of energy saved in the full 36 hours is 166. That equals a base score of 16,600 if each attack earns you 100 points. When you reach level 2, your attacks will earn an extra 10% i.e. 110 points for a 1 point attack. Thus if you want to earn two gold chests you'll need to make sure you attack pretty much every single time.  Once you reach level 2 or 3 on some of your attacks the extra bonus points will add up, allowing you to skip an attack or two and still hit 16,000.

How I earned $10,000 Sim Cash Without Hacks or Cheats – The Sandbag Method

$
0
0
I recently hit the $10,000 mark in sim cash earnings from CoM. The method I discovered to do that was basically a mistake because I really wasn’t trying to do good. As it turns out, that was the secret: Don’t try to do good.
History:

When CoM got introduced I participated for a while and made some good efforts at advancing and winning the whole thing. I eventually got sick of the entire endeavor because it seemed like so much of it was based on luck. One person could do all of the highest point tasks, and yet still not win. So while others participated, I generally would only do the easiest tasks in order to earn the minimum required to get the Club Challenge rewards.

When wars got introduced, I jumped into that with full spirit and would often be one of the top scorers. Eventually I decided to make a second city so I could earn more points for my team. I purposefully kept that second city small, and like my main city, would do just enough to earn the Club Challenge Rewards in CoM.

Accidental promotion:

I never paid much attention to CoM since I really wasn’t doing it, and eventually noticed I was in Metropolis league. How? I had no idea. One look at the scoreboard showed that the leaderboard was mostly empty. The other people who had the same low contest rank as me just didn’t participate in CoM. Thus, without even trying, my super low scores of 1500 or 2000 points were enough to advance to the next stage.

Gametime

Since I was in the middle of a season, the win bonuses were doubled. Thus a win in Megalopolis League would earn $4,000 simcash. So I decided, heck, I might as well make a run for the title since the competition was basically non-existent. I won Metropolis league, and then did my best to win the top league. In my first attempt, I came in 2nd, earning $2,000 simcash. Unfortunately the season was ending, so I waited until the next season and then repeated the process:

  • Barely advanced to the next stage by keeping my scores near the bottom of the list
  • Waited until I got to the top league, Megalopolis
  • Once getting to Megalopolis, I made a real push for the title.
  • Sim Cashed my way through boat shipments
  • Used a ton of gold coins to speed things up
  • Chose only the highest point tasks

That second attempt earned me first place, netting me $4,000 sim cash. I took a bit of a break to build up my Vu supply and then made another attempt, again winning first place, netting another $4,000 sim cash.

Note: I did all of this in my second city, which again was purposefully kept small and a low contest level. My main city is level 99 and had:
  • Large supply of general items that I could share
  • Large supply of Vu
  • Large amount of bronze, silver, gold tokens stored up (I had about 100 of each)
The city that was competing in CoM had
  • Level 28
  • Contest Level 12
  • Large amount of bronze, silver, gold tokens saved up
  • Large amount of golden tickets saved up
  • About $300 sim cash saved up from wars.
Don't Be a Wimp - Spend Sim Cash to Win

Each time I made a run for the title, I had one other major competitor who was also going for it. Keep an eye on the sim cash amounts that you can potentially win. Know that the sim cash you spend is an investment into guaranteeing a larger payday at the end. You've probably grown accustomed to not spending sim cash on anything, but when you are trying to win the title, spends sim cash, and spend it freely. I spend anywhere from $50 - $250 sim cash for each win, but considering the difference between 1st and 2nd place is $2,000 sim cash, it was a calculated decision and one I don't regret.

No Guarantees

Although I think this method is a much easier method than trying to fight it out with the big dogs, there is no guarantee you'll win. I think luck still plays a factor. One of my wins was by less than 100 points. I wouldn't be surprised if the programming rewards players who spent the most sim cash. So when you try to make a run for the title, do so making sure you can still earn enough to cover the sim cash expense and/or be happy with a top finish of 2nd-5th place or whatever your break even point is.
